The article describes utilization programs for irradiation facilities for ion beam, -ray and electron beam in Takasaki Advanced Radiation Research Institute under the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Sports, Culture, Science and Technology) grants. The feature of the facilities and technical support of assistants in the fields of creation of genetic resources, analytical technology, and material development under the grants are introduced. The article also includes recent research activities of development of new flowers, visualization of Li in lithium-ion battery, and development of distortion resistance of fluoro-rubber etc.

This book gives an outline on the Nuclear Fusion Energy in plain words. This book shows that the nuclear fusion is an ultimate energy source, a core of the nuclear fusion energy plant is a high temperature plasma, and the tokamak machine has opened up a road to realize the nuclear fusion reactor. Furthermore the development progress of ITER project with Japanese big contribution on it and several characteristics of the Nuclear Fusion Energy are explained in this book.

The International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) as the neutron irradiation facility for developing the fusion reactor materials requires a linac accelerating 40 MeV deuteron beam with current of ampere class continuously, and the design of the accelerating module of 125 mA is conducted. For completing the conceptual design study, the design to reduce the cost by employing a staged construction with 3 steps to achieve final goal of 250 mA was performed. As for the linac, the strategy to realize the 50 mA acceleration at first step and to upgrade to 125 mA was conceived. In this year, the existing designs of RFQ, DTL and RF system will be reviewed and major testing items must be defined, to initiate the verification tests for key component technology. This report summarizes the status of each of component design and the related issues to be implemented in the verification tests.
